Low cost Frontline, Advantage, K-9 Advantix Flea Kits

The threat is just around the corner, or in your yard, or under the carpet, inside your walls, or living right next door.

* On average, fleas live 2 to 3 months
* Some fleas can jump 150 times their own length
* Females can lay 2,000 eggs in their lifetime
* Females fleas can consume 15 times their body weight in blood daily. Multiply that by the number of fleas that may be lurking on your pets, and you'll have some idea of the scope of the threat.
* See one flea, you haven't seen them all.....more than 100 offspring or adults are probably looming nearby.
* Cats and dogs can share fleas.
*Fleas can cause patches of hair loss or reddened, irritated skin, known as Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD)
* Fleas can also transmit tapeworms to pets and people.

Now is the time to protect your pets - and your family - from fleas and ticks.

Jack Russell Terrier  (Dakota)

Meet Dakota, 8+yrs, male(int).  Man dropped off said he just found him....later find out he is the actual owner, possible breeder, although this boy looks like mix.  Also was told that wouldn't recommend small children & that there were other dogs he lived with.  He hasn't done anything wrong at the shelter, just doesn't pay much attention to folks taking him out...interested in everything else.  Needs dental.

South Animal Care Center 321-253-6608

Mastiff/Lab mix  (Margo)

OK HERE IS ANOTHER GIRL, MASTIFF, OR MASTIFF/LAB GIRL NEEDS RESCUE BEFORE TO LATE
GIVE SAME INFO AS CONTACT AS WELL JYNNI OR KIM ,WE ARE RESCUE FRIENDLY
TRANSPORT HELP OFFERED ON THIS GIRL!!!!!!!!

She's big girl, approx 4yrs, stray, recently spayed.  When she is out of her kennel, she's very happy, friendly- nice girl.  She gets growly in kennel- we think it's the chaos around her- definitely no small children.  We did have her available for couple weeks with folks taking her out, with a family wanting to adopt her but before they took her home, their toddler went near her upon pick up & she snapped at her (she was still recovering from spay earlier).  She will not be placed back up...can anyone help...think she has potential of being a sweet girl.  Has some thinning hair but no skin condition...just needs good food.

Splish,Splash with the right precautions.....

Whether the body of water is an ocean, lake, pool or even a tub, the health benefits are immense for dogs coping with arthritis, post surgical recovery, limb problems, extra pounds or simply extra energy."Water therapy is a great aerobic erercise, particularly because the water provides resistance. People are becoming more aware of canine rehab and the benefits.
Water also offers natural buoyancy far kinder on dogs than long walks on concrete walkways or arduous hikes on rocky terrain. If you face a mismatch...having a hyper dog who needs a lot more exercise than you do....wading and swimming are ideal options. With the right safety measures your dog can benefit from exercising in water.

Picking a body of water that is safe for your dog is the 1st step.
Avoid rivers with strong currents.
Stay away from water that has algea or that is stagnant.
Beware of your dog jumping into stick ponds, where broken branches and stumps may be lurking under the water.
Never let a dog swim in small ponds, especially if it's a drainage area for housing developments. They contain a lot of chemicals , such as lawn treatments and insect control..
Another NO, NO.....ponds on a golf course. If you would take a microscopic look at what lives in these ponds, you would totally freak......Just think lots of parasites.
No matter where your dogs swims, always rinse him or her off in clean water.
For regular water lovers, visit your vet to have your dog vacinated against a water borne parasite called Giardia for an extra barrier of protection.
Finally discourage your dog from drinking salt water, which can cause diarhea, vomiting and dehydration. Always carry a water bowl with you and offer your dog plenty of fresh water or ice to keep him or her hydrated.

It is also important to know when enough is enough. End the water work out before your dog becomes overttired. Some dogs are so happy to please and so ball motivated that they won't stop.....and risk drowning.
Look for signs such as your dogs breathing heavily, seems to sit lower in the water, or taking more time to come back. These signs are telling you to stop and let your dog rest. Pay particular attention to dogs with barrel chests or flat noses, such as bulldogs, pugs, shih-tzus, etc....Their build does not allow for their noses to poke far enough out of the water.
Never assume a dog is a natural swimmer just because of their breed....that is definitley not the case.......Not all water dogs like water.

How about a little canine motivation?

Has your doctor said you need to excercise. Now when you think of excercising, you think of a gym and all that fancy equipment or classes like joga or jazzersize.......Hmmmmmmmmmm! Definitely not in my lifestyle or daily routine. Then you have to have a friend around just to get you motivated, at least I do..hahahahahaha. In my case, my friends have their own lives and families to take care of and they are always just to tired. Which means I don't go either cause it's just no fun doing something like that alone.....
But exercising doesn't necessarily mean going to a gym or some class, it can be walking, jogging, or running at your own pace. I  have to tell you I'm not a loner, so I still need someone to go with me to keep me motivated or at least some company on my new routine.

I found the greatest motivation to be my pet...they never have an excuse not to go, nor do they tell you what time of the day or day of the week to go......wow, how great is that?

Now Keep in mind........Dogs can run (or walk) farther and faster than people, but that doesn't mean they should leap off the sofa and run for miles. If they are just starting out like you or I, they need to build up gradually. If it happens to be a puppy, avoid exercising to strenuously for to long to avoid damaging their developing bones and joints. In addittion, dogs that are older or recovering from an injury or illness may need to take it a little easier or excercise for shorter periods. For instance, you can switch from a 30 minute run or walk to 2 15 minute walks a day.
Swimming can also be a great alternative to running or walking. However, I don't know of anyplace public that allows you to swim with your pets So unless you have your own pool, this would definitely be out of the equation.
Always avoid excercising during the hottest part of the day. This is definitely a no no for both you and your pet. Dawn, dusk and after dark are often the best times, but that depends on the area you live in.

Don't have a pet to excercise with you? Visit your local pet shelters to adopt one. They have thousands who are waiting to be adopted, loved and excercised by people like myself and you.

Can't have a pet where you live? Then donate your time to excercising pets at a local animal shelter. Almost all shelters are in need of volunteers to excercise their animals. You'll never have to be alone to exercise again.......
