Doc

Pit Bull Terrier [Mix]

Large Young Male Dog Pet ID: 444811

I was brought here because my owner's had too many animals. Now I need a new forever home. I am about 6 months old and 'they' say I'm a 'nice puppy'. You can believe what 'they' say, or you can come here and see for yourself. I am friendly - I get along well with children and other dogs. I am very playful - I'm a puppy after all. Please come see me and get to know me.

I got lost and no one came looking for me. Now I need a new forever home. I am about 4 years old - passed the puppy phase, but still playful. I am smart and friendly. Please come see me and get to know me. Please hurry, I've been here so long & I am a very friendly, laid back boy who doesn't get excited when the other dogs are passing by but I my time here may be limited.

Shelter Dogs' Plea

IN MEMORY OF RAIDER a shelter pet who never got his second chance..........

Tell Me Why . . .
does no one hold me when I cry?

They say we are a good-natured breed,
cheerful and easy to get along with,
that to be happy there is little we need

A place to have fun and not much more,
good food, a warm spot to sleep, and love
but I won't get that down on this floor.

I was brought here when I was fairly young –
a gawky, healthy pup and though it's been a while
I still recall starlight and the bright, warm sun

I remember running on grass and gazing at the sky
I had litter mates once and we would tumble and play
now there are dogs I can't see, but I hear them cry

When humans come to get me they are wearing white
sometimes they take me to an enclosed patio of cement
I can stretch my legs, but I'm alone. To prevent a fight?

Once, a human pulled me out of my cage and on her sleeve
I could smell the confusion and despair from one of my kind
It made me nervous, I whined and I squirmed, wanting to leave

She flinched, a person yelled at her, and they walked away
since that time, when they come for me, there is no smell
no scent of the others who live in this jail of gray

I'm afraid, and sad, wondering how long will I be here?

Someone should know that my soul is alive
My loving heart remains sweet
I haven't a name, just a number:.........

. . . there are no toys, no walks, no treats

Two humans have come to collect me
one is carrying a small plastic bag
The other, with a needle in hand, lifts me up
and lays me down on a cold metal slab
I'm given a shot, but this time it feels different –
it reaches inside of me, and goes deep

Shivering, I feel like I should cry
but all that comes out is a whimper
Why is there no one to hold me?

Tell me why . . .
the others and I must die?

I speak for all the voiceless here in Brevard County Florida. Please listen! The majority of all the animals turned into county shelters end up like this....and if they tell you otherwise.....DON"T FOR ANY REASON BELIEVE THEM.

We treat our murders and sex offenders better than this. What did these animals do to deserve this kind of inhumane treatment? The taking of any kind of life is murder! Your tax dollars are paying for this behavior. Please help us stop this. Be a responsible pet owner, spay and neuter your pets, adopt a shelter pet and save a life. When it comes time to vote for your town officials make sure you know where they stand regarding mass murder of innocent pets, after all you are paying for this! If our town or city elected officials can allow this to happen and make us pay for it, ask yourself what other inhumane behavior are they capable of doing and making us pay for? If we allow this to continue we are just as responsible as our elected officials.

An animal advocate fighting for the rights of the voiceless.

How about a little canine motivation?

Has your doctor said you need to excercise. Now when you think of excercising, you think of a gym and all that fancy equipment or classes like joga or jazzersize.......Hmmmmmmmmmm! Definitely not in my lifestyle or daily routine. Then you have to have a friend around just to get you motivated, at least I do..hahahahahaha. In my case, my friends have their own lives and families to take care of and they are always just to tired. Which means I don't go either cause it's just no fun doing something like that alone.....
But exercising doesn't necessarily mean going to a gym or some class, it can be walking, jogging, or running at your own pace. I  have to tell you I'm not a loner, so I still need someone to go with me to keep me motivated or at least some company on my new routine.

I found the greatest motivation to be my pet...they never have an excuse not to go, nor do they tell you what time of the day or day of the week to go......wow, how great is that?

Now Keep in mind........Dogs can run (or walk) farther and faster than people, but that doesn't mean they should leap off the sofa and run for miles. If they are just starting out like you or I, they need to build up gradually. If it happens to be a puppy, avoid exercising to strenuously for to long to avoid damaging their developing bones and joints. In addittion, dogs that are older or recovering from an injury or illness may need to take it a little easier or excercise for shorter periods. For instance, you can switch from a 30 minute run or walk to 2 15 minute walks a day.
Swimming can also be a great alternative to running or walking. However, I don't know of anyplace public that allows you to swim with your pets So unless you have your own pool, this would definitely be out of the equation.
Always avoid excercising during the hottest part of the day. This is definitely a no no for both you and your pet. Dawn, dusk and after dark are often the best times, but that depends on the area you live in.

Don't have a pet to excercise with you? Visit your local pet shelters to adopt one. They have thousands who are waiting to be adopted, loved and excercised by people like myself and you.

Can't have a pet where you live? Then donate your time to excercising pets at a local animal shelter. Almost all shelters are in need of volunteers to excercise their animals. You'll never have to be alone to exercise again.......
